Donuts + Dine

We have put together an awesome event that combines lots of pretty sweet things – like Maker’s Donuts, a hot chocolate bar, handmade Valentines complete with tiny envelopes and ART!!!   Donuts + Dine will be on Saturday, February 4th at 9:30 at the KMA.

The Knoxville Museum of Art has one of Jim Dine’s heart-themed pieces as apart of its permanent collection.  Led by professional art teachers, we’ll examine his work together.  And taking inspiration from the piece, we’ll create our own Valentines using paint, stencils and stamps.  Each participant will leave with a set of 10 little Valentines. {Have we mentioned the tiny envelopes?!?!}  The cost is $10/participant.

If you want to join us on Saturday, please send an email to ameliadaniels@gmail.com.  Current Art House members can reply to the text we sent on Friday, if you haven’t already RSVPed.  While children are welcome at this event, it’s really going to be great fun for ALL ages!!!

3, 2, 1… Blast Off!

What an incredible launch to 2017!  Art House hosted nearly 100 members and prospective members at the museum on Wednesday night.

The Art House Splash (our fancy gin cocktail) couldn’t have been any more perfect.    Thanks to our special bartenders, Mark and Chris.  As typical with most of our events, great attention was paid to both the libations and the beautiful food!  {We are just trying to keep up with the real beauties inside the galleries!}

We were, once again, blessed by the presence and knowledge of the museum’s executive director, David Butler and lead curator, Stephen Wicks.  They took two groups through the museum’s Higher Ground exhibit where we were enthralled with the works of Beauford Delaney and other regional artists like, Catherine Wiley.  (Thank you, David and Stephen!)

Art House Committee Chair, Courtney Lee, shared our mission and encouraged everyone to either renew their membership or join Art House for the first time.

To make it as easy as possible on our members, membership dues can be paid online right here.  It’s $110 for individuals and $130 for a family membership.

We have an incredible line-up of events, starting Saturday morning, February 4th, and it’s open to all ages. Donuts + Dine will feature donuts from Maker’s Donuts, a look at the artist Jim Dine and his heart-inspired works, and a Valentines making workshop led by two professional art teachers.  An email invitation will follow!

Later in February, we will light up the night at the KMA for an adults only event.  Music, movement and light will mix in new ways as we create art together.  Mark your calendars for February 23rd at 6:30pm for LIGHT WRITE.  Stay tuned for even more details on this enlightening evening!

And members can save the date for a dinner party on April 7th.  This event will be held in a private home; we will learn from the owners about how to buy art!  This will be an inspiring evening – you do NOT want to miss it.

Huge thanks to everyone who made Wednesday night a success and we look forward to seeing you at future Art House events!  If you have any questions about joining, email Maggie Meyers at mmeyers@knoxart.org.

2017 Kick-Off Party

We are thrilled to start of the second year of Art House!  And what better way to welcome the new year, than with a cocktail party at the museum?

text-version-01

Art House has held nearly a dozen unique art events in 2016, making our first year pretty awesome for our members.  We took a top-secret tour of the museum’s underground and explored its archives; we repurposed surfaces with Artist Heather Wolfe Smith, then made pottery and ate pizza (in that order).  Summer only got hotter when we marveled at the talent of LA-based artist, Tyler Ramsey as he created art with paint on canvas, using a dance troupe as brushes.  Ramsey snipped and cropped the 15 X 15 canvas so Art House members could take a portion of the masterpiece home with them!  We learned how to buy art from the museum’s executive director, and set our gaze upon his own personal collection. (WOW!)  We spiced things up in October and sipped Scarlett Letters whilst taking in the art of the Romantic Period.  And ended the year in a secret location (above Market Square) ushering in the holidays with the sounds of the UT Singers.

At this year’s launch party, we’re going to explore Higher Ground, one of the museum’s permanent exhibits on the third floor.  Higher Ground has two new works of art by Beauford Delaney, and the museum’s executive director, David Butler and senior curator, Stephen Wicks will be on hand to give mini-tours.  An absolute treat!!!

We are hoping to have 100% membership renewal, as well as opening our membership to new people who want to learn and grow through art.  (If you haven’t renewed yet, click here.  It’s $110 for individuals and $130 for families.)  A few events will be returning to the Art House calendar in 2017, like the How to Buy Art Series in April.  But first up is a sweet event called Donuts + Dine in which we’ll study the work of Jim Dine, eat donuts, and make some pretty sweet Valentines.

If you are interested in joining Art House and want to come to our kick-off party, get on the guest list by contacting Maggie Meyers!  Her email address is mmeyers@knoxart.org.
